What to Expect With Full Mouth Reconstruction

Full mouth reconstruction involves different procedures, ranging from dental implants, porcelain veneers, orthodontic aligners, and periodontal treatment. Reconstructions vary from patient to patient. Hence, do not expect that your treatment plan will be the same as someone else’s. It all hinges on the condition of the patient’s teeth and gums.
However, some procedures are similar. These include removing infected teeth, crown placement, veneers, dental implants, or even jaw surgery.

  • The dentist first performs an initial analysis of your mouth to determine the appropriate order treatments should occur. After this, they would come up with a treatment plan. They will also discuss with you the details of each procedure.
To get through all the procedures, you may need multiple office appointments. The dental procedures are done in different stages and take time to heal. Thus, the dentist will spread them out over time.

  • Infected teeth and gums can increase the risk of infection. Thus, the dentist must deal with any infected teeth or gums in these areas before starting the reconstruction procedure. Otherwise, the infection can spread to neighboring teeth or gum tissue. It can also travel to your bloodstream and cause complications in other organs.
To reduce the risk of infection, the doctor can recommend different treatments. The treatments include root canal therapy, fillings, dental sealants, or laser dentistry. Root canals deal with damage to root pulp, while fillings offer a safe and effective solution for cavities. Dental sealants can prevent bacterial buildup that leads to tooth decay.

They may also ask you to take antibiotics for a while to deal with any presenting infections. Once the risk is out of the way, the dentist can proceed with other procedures.

  • Dental implants are permanent, so dentists recommend this method of teeth replacement. The titanium root goes into the jawbone. As the jawbone heals, the titanium post anchors securely into the jaw. Due to the nature of titanium, they both fuse.
The healing process takes about 5 months. Once the post securely attaches, the dentist adds a crown that attaches to the abutment. It gives the tooth stability and improves your appearance. The replacement teeth function and look like your natural teeth, restoring your self-esteem and mental health.

  • Dentists do not always recommend the removal of teeth and fixing dental implants. Instead, the dentist may reshape your tooth or teeth to remove the damage or decay. Afterward, they will place a crown over the tooth or teeth. Crowns add functionality to your teeth and improve your appearance.

  • Misalignment of teeth or jaw can affect your oral health and put you at risk. If you suffer from any of these, the dentist will apply orthodontic alignment treatments. These may include aligners, braces, oral appliances, or jaw surgery.
